Acne is one health problem that is surrounded by a lot myths. The facts about acne are swallowed by the myths, and a lot of people fall for the myths instead of the facts, even when the facts of acne are brought home to them.
Why is this?
Well, the simple reason is that both the facts and myths are interwoven making it almost impossible for an acne sufferer to decipher the truth from the falsehood. So they wallow in a very traumatic and embarrassing physically condition they loath all their lives.
And need I tell you that acne myths have done so much to perpetuate acne in many people? A lot of them have had their skins damaged as a result of acne myths. Acne myths are so powerful that people accept them without a second thought. I hope you are not following a fantastic acne regimen that will damage your skin instead of bringing you relief from acne.
However, it will do you a lot of good to know some of the popular acne myths so as to avoid them:
Fatty foods cause acne: How this is so has no scientific backing, though greasy foods are not good for your general well being. Eating fatty food can bring about other health conditions that may ignite acne eruptions on your skin. So to be on the safe side, keep away from fatty foods.
Eating Chocolates cause acne: There is no prove of this, but too much of any food Just is bad for your liver and since your liver produces waste, this can have some adverse effect on your skin. Do not eat too many chocolates; they can impair your health.
Sun Bathing or Natural light treats acne: This is deceptive to a very large extent, because drying the skin with sun can even make the skin dryer and cause more acne breakout. Do not be deceived because sun drying may make acne appear dried and healing; it does not cure acne.
Cleanliness Prevents and Cures Acne: It is a good habit to be clean, but a lot of people believe their acne problems are caused by a lack of cleanliness so they begin an incessant routine of scrubbing to make those pimples go away. This is not necessary. Washing your face or the affected part with mild soap and soft sponge just two times a day is enough. Do not scrub and rub, you skin will be irritated and cause even more acne breakout.
The above are the most popular acne myths. There several others not mentioned here, what you should bear in mind is that acne is not headache and so does not disappear like one.
There are many orthodox, natural and alternative acne treatments available. If you are not being treated by a professional, you will have to try several available treatments to find what works for you. What works for someone else may or may not work for you.
